   Classroom Procedures

Students are expected to enter the music room with listening ears and quiet voices that are ready to sing.  Assigned seats change when each team (red, blue, yellow, and green) earns eight points for good behavior and participation.  Each team may earn one point per day and may make up a lost point with exceptional behavior. When eight points are earned, students who have not had their names on the board have earned a “free day.”  On “free day,” students vote to participate in their favorite music activities during that class period.  After each class period, a music report is completed to be returned to the classroom teacher.  The report includes an overall class behavior score (1-5; 1=poor, 2=needs improvement, 3=average, 4=above average, 5=excellent).  The report is also used to inform the teacher about individuals who made poor choices in music, as well as "star students" who demonstrated an exceptionally positive behavior.

The following rules should be observed at all times:

  • Follow directions the first time given.
  • Raise hand before speaking and use an appropriate speaking voice.
  • Keep hands, feet, and other objects to self
  • Participate by singing, moving, dancing, etc. as requested.

The following consequences will follow should a student make a poor decision:

  • Verbal warning
  • Name written on board, point lost for team, teacher notified
  • If a student habitually makes poor choices, a note will be sent home in the student’s agenda.
  • Student may be sent to Mr. Riggs if necessary.
